Introducing the all-new Skoda Octavia vRS!
So, what will you find in the vRS that you don’t get with the normal Octavia? Well under the bonnet, you’ll have a choice of petrol, diesel or hybrid engines. We’ve got the petrol here, which is a 2-litre turbo petrol that can produce 245hp & 370Nm.
As for design upgrades, you’ll find redesigned & sportier bumpers at the front and back, as well as an updated grille. Whilst inside, you’ll find a number of upgrades, from sports seats through to alcantara on the dash. And of course, don't forget masses of red stitching throughout! After all, red means sporty, of course.
So, it all sounds pretty good, right? But is it enough to tempt you away from the all-new VW Golf GTI? It may be slightly cheaper than the GTI, but is that enough? You’ll have to stick with Mat for his latest in-depth review to find out!

We're quite liking the new Octavia vRS, but what do you think - would you choose it over the VW Golf GTI or Ford Focus ST? VOTE with a LIKE in the comments we've posted below!
Why is the Leon cupra ST always forgotten about? That is the direct competitor to the vrs (though the cupra is a bit more pricey and more hp but is also a fast practical car)
Better than golf 8 not than 7,5...
@Doctor Twilight you can choose anything you want. You find it very difficult to get it though.
@D S Rice?
If you need a mk3 vrs I'm available to take the win 👍
I just hate these “pee pee shifters” plz equip the audi a4 shifter for future car. Volkswagen, *please*
₹36,000,00 in india 🇮🇳 😰😰
Skoda in UK : value for money affordable car 0:43 Skoda in india : premium car brooooo😅
Will only get an auto here in Australia. No manual. And that makes this car crap!!
So which to choose peugeot 508 gt 225 or this skoda vrs?
Doesn't like small gear lever , doesn't like old school gear lever on Skoda Superb recently. Mat it's hard to make mind up or you just slagging Skoda off. I know just slagging off mate .....
Cmon, Octavia is not hot hatch. I mean VRS is hot, just not in the hot-hatch category.
oh man the levante
What if I wanna miss an upload
HotHatch??? that's Not a Hatchback... it is a 5-door sedan
Kia stinger?
what idiot would pay 35 grand for that
surprisingly positive considering your badge bias - failed to mention its an Audi engine without the Audi price tag.
the only thing I don't understand why skoda is so damn expensive
Horrible exhaust sound😂
Too expensive... this price you can buy some better cars... Honda typR, Seat Cupra etc... But do you know!
The exhausts are more like a push up bra than a full boob job, but I do like the car.
Can Mat decide if he likes the gear selector or not? In here and the Octavia+Golf test he slaughters it. Then in the Superb test he slaughters Skoda for using the old automatic gear selector stick., and says they should have given it this one. What does he actually want to have?
Id love to see the diesel,EV and petrol models do a drag race
Talk about inconsistent . One minute referring to it as the “Octayyyvia” the next it’s the “Octaaaarvia”. Flip flopping around throughout. Make your mind up and stick with on pronunciation.
In the ‘real world’ people don’t drive a family hatch, albeit a quick one, like you’ve stolen it.
That looks like a BMW grill.
Was really hoping the new vRS would be AWD and have a bit more power. The wagon would be an everymans RS4. But alas, no.
Do you know why an Audi e tron is better than a skoda octavia? BECAUSE ITS TWICE THE PRICE, OF COURSE ITS GONNA BE BETTER!!!! And secondly.... you are buying a car not a couch. But, thank you car wow for your help. I found the car that is really good for me. You are a really good channel.
It’s a much nicer product. Bodies quite nice from what it was. Wasn’t really a fan though I appreciated what it was and allowed to be being the “runt” of the VAG group
Sounds like someone isn't really impressed by Skoda :D
is that new audi or what ? :D
Isn't this a Saloon? Why do you refer to it as a hot hatch?
That is about as loud as a Tesla. Jeesh!
I envy european, they have so much better car to choose from than North America, hell, even Ford sells better compact car in Europe than in USA
@Theodor Eberbach I think it will be difficult for some brands and their range of vehicles. Even Ford in Europe sells many compact cars like the Ford Ka or Ford EcoSport; Many European SUV which seem large here would be only medium size in the USA; All European pickups are compact compared to American ones, with all of them being in the size of the Ranger. While Sedans are offered in a wide range here, the wagon is far more popular here; Although practical it probably wouldn't sell as good in the USA. Many brands would struggle in the USA with their existing fleet. Even those which are selling in the USA offer only a small range in the USA. Take Mercedes-Benz for example. Most Americans won't know that they're big in the commercial vehicle sector, in fact Mercedes is the brand offering THE widest range of vehicles. But they don't sell trucks or buses in the USA
@EnjoyFirefighting - International Emergency Response Videos I really want all European car to come to North America, if they do I doubt Ford or GM for that matter, will be able to hold the market, because American made car is just simply too shit, they are not good at anything at all. But hey, I'm really looking forward to getting a Renault Megane of Renault ever return to USA
Tbh I would hardly buy any Ford in Europe: I drove the Mondeo, Focus and Transit and Transit Custom so far. The only Ford I'd eventually buy here in Europe is the Explorer or Ranger. The GT and the Mustang is available here as well, but already a F150 isn't available at a normal Ford dealership, nor any other F series ... takes a specialized dealer for those. Ford offers many compact to medium size cars and SUV here, in Turkey they build the Ford F Max but it's not popular in the commercial sector at all. I wanted to spec a new Ford at their homepage and unfortunately, at least online, the options are very very limited there. The Ford cars and vans I've driven so far: loud engine noise (I'd expect a loud engine on a Mustang, but not on a Focus or Mondeo), windshield wipers which (when activated) hit the a column when driving at 90 mph or faster, cheap plastic interior, and although it's practical I can't stand the thin heating stripes in the windshield. The Transit Custom also offers very little leg room for the driver and co-driver. Only pro argument I experienced with the Focus is that it's very forgiving concerning handling As for Skoda: unfortunately not available in the USA but they want to enter the American market soon; I really like their quality. They used to have a very limited range of very reliable high quality cars which didn't look very nice 10 to 15 years ago, but since then they also added a high quality design and many practical solutions I didn't find on other cars at the same time, or at least not in the same vehicle class. Last year I bough a Skoda Kodiaq, a 7-seater SUV with relatively good offroad capability. It has 5 different + 1 individual driving mode + a seperate offroad mode, has 2 glove boxes on the co-driver's side, has umbrellas hidden in both front doors, has door edge protection on every door, FWD with automatic AWD, hill descent control, block heater, 3 zone climate control, 360° camera at 3 viewing angles, ...
Shkoda Oc-TAE-viya? Skoda Oc-TAE-via? Shkoda Oc-TAAA-via? Someone's gotta tell the right pronunciation please!!
they have bodged the body lines with creases.
Help me carwow
Welcome to the internet :]
I hate this foreign pronounciation.. Its not Skouda its ŠKODA... "SHKODA".
where are you from? I'm 100% sure that you pronounce many brands in your language and not in the language where other car brands are coming from
This car makes no sense, you might as pay extra and get the extra prestige of a VW Golf GTI.
Man those "5 annoying things" are really annoying!
Are cars like this really relevant anymore?
Why are they keep saying "hot hatch"? Isn't it a sedan in de UK? Or is it a hatch because the rear window opens along with the boot?
grill looks like a mix of bmw and kia
Skoda superb 1.5 tsi 150 dsg
The caring wallet legally signal because cone conspicuously grease without a melodic random. vague, wry july
I honestly think car manufactures should hire you and get you to help them design there cars So they don’t get the smallest things wrong.
you driving on the motorway cutting up the front of lorry without not indicating lovely driving matt
My 1.8 NA 20 yo celica can do the same 0-60...except its euro 3 :DDD
made with spare TT parts 🤷♂️
Better looking then passat 🤔
Yeah, maybe don't try launching in the rain bro 😂
35000 for a skoda lol
last year I bough a 2nd hand Skoda for €34k
Don't give a taxi driver 245hp 🤣 it will be chaos on the roads😅
i would buy it if is was 4 wheel drive and at least 300 hp
Oddly I prefer the look of the normal model, I find it quite an elegant sort of design that then looks at odds with the vRS body kit. Nice colour though!
I won't get to know what's ur favorite car now because the pop up doesn't pop up
Rear-end is ugly as shit.
Bloke is a prat. Is it an “Octarvia” or an “Octayvia”. Brummie twit.
why are you even comparing a sedan to a hatchback lol. no, it’s not better than a gti
Skoda used to be a joke, now they make a better BMW than BMW does
This or hyundai i30 fastback N?
I can never mentally see the Octavia's as hot hatches. They just look too saloon/sedan like, feels weird. You have to look like a dumpy shoe with a squished ass to get into the hot hatch club 😤. Anyone else feel that vibe?
Oh mat, how have you fallen. One of the only car reviewers that was still saying ok-ta-vee-ahh, not ok-tæ-vee-ah
1:54 I see ya like tapping the window?
Of course it is. At last it's a sedan
Sorry I think they they have ruined the new Skoda Octavia that's why I went out and bought the mark 3 and last few cars left in the country nobody's going to buy these cars at the rate did the old skodas to upmarket now Hyundai and kia's that's where people now go to goodbye Skoda Octavia
its a sedan ffs not a hatch
Can we get a review of the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer (7 seater) please!
the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is ... shit. I drive one at work and although it handles better than our previous X3, it's absolutely not what I expect. It sets off and accelerates pretty nice both in normal and sports mode, but declaring a car like that as compact van is just odd, as there's absolutely nothing van-like about it
Never have I seen such pedantry. It’s a fabulously capable car.
amazing car !
Hi! I'd like to see an episode with Mazda CX30 🙂
"Sporty" Skodas got to be the most boring cars I know. Wannabe fast shit I'd say.
@Mäkki for being a practical family wagon it definetly isn't slow. Don't want to know how "fast" my old 75 hp wagon would have been on the track. It was only practical, pulled off relatively good, but it wasn't anything fast with a top speed of only 106 mph / 170 kph. Does it really need sth going faster than 155 mph / 250 kph when choosing a wagon? Apart from Germany, where else in the world would you go at such speeds on public roads? We have an old Octavia at work, not sure of the top speed, but it definetly is above the average traffic flow speeds on the highway
@EnjoyFirefighting - International Emergency Response Videos Yeah, that 8:50 got nothing to do with fast.
wannabe fast? Take a look at the Octavia's laps at the Nürburgring, 8:50 isn't bad for a family wagon
It is wonderful car, very useful and and it is VRS
Yes it’s better than a GTI. Especially when you factor in the price.
as a czech, im quite sad they dont make v6 engines anymore....they would be awesome in these cars
I can’t tell if this is the 2021 bmw 5 series or a skoda octavia
@bocoy noiu there is?! The Skoda Kodiaq RS and the smaller Skoda Karoq RS
Why is there not a vrs SUV or something. I don't want to look like a taxi driver.
Diesel 4x4 for me, because of high annual mileage. And for short journey i would just use my golf gte.
I just dont think that this can be compared with Golf, this is sedan and Golf, if not variant, is hatchback.
When do we get a pure electric version? Love my VRS but it's getting old.
I had a Mk 3 vRS for four years. Boring as hell but it was a bloody fantastic car. Well spec’d, loads of room, ok to drive, reliable. It never excited me but it never annoyed me and just cracked on with life. The new one looks ok (better than the Mk3 FL) and the interior looks like an improvement.
It looks like a Hyundai Genesis from 5 years ago
The front of this car looks like they never got to finalizing the design. Well, it still looks better then the new Golf..
Octavia combi IS not a car IS a van!!!!!
how is that a van? :D
Proud of that car... our countries still got it 🇨🇿🇸🇰
@VW Golf what for kid?
Thanks to....🇩🇪
Its a huge improvement over previous model
VW will never let Skoda evolve beyond the performance of the owner brand.
Those are some damn ugly wheels.
Used to like his reviews, now they’re just plain boring. He’s like bitching about everything.
Cann't remember if it was Tiff or Clarkson that described Hot Hatches as having a wheel at each corner. Once anything is over hanging, hatch or not, it stops being a Hatchback I'm afraid.
Never really liked Skoda but this is art. Looks better than Audis or BMWs at this price!
That black grill is ugly and cheap looking.
5:17 because you are sitting on a wrong side :P
try tro pronounce it as shkoda
Why is there not a vrs SUV or something. I don't want to look like a taxi driver.
Why can't we get skoda here in the us. I like there cars for the most part. And I would like more small diesel hatches and sedans from Europe in the us. And more manual options on cars. It would be cool to get them.
Skoda has plans to enter the US market and (as it's like an admission ticket in the USA) then also wants to offer a pickup truck version of the Skoda Kodiaq, roughly the size of the Ford Ranger then.
Yes finally matt u made it ,was waiting for this a long time
What's that noise at 25mph when launching? OMG!!!
Why there is no RWD, 200hp+ car with manual shifting and 4 seats? :´((((
Cars sound soooooo lame these days
Yeah, boot and rear seats are massive because the car is massive. Hardly something one wants from a hot hatch though.
It looks like a BMW and an Audi at the same time.
This car looks beautiful for a Skoda, the front especially
Way to little power for a top of the range model, really should be nudging 300bhp at least in this day and age.
Defo looks way better than the Mk8 GTI
Maybe I will be able afford it in 2030 :)
